About Calculo: Frequently Asked Questions

(Questions answered by Megora McGonagall)

Q: What does "Calculo" mean?
A: As I've found out, it means lots of things in lots of different languages. I chose it for its latin translation; "Book-keeper". It just seemed to fit and it was a lot more fun than just calling the site "The Library" or something like that.

Q: Why did you create Calculo?
A: Honestly, I was really tired of being asked "What do I read after Potter?" and not being able to give a grand answer. I'd usually just say "Roald Dahl", but I knew there was so much more to literature. With the help of Alex and Lindsay, we created a booklist, which then transformed into the idea for Calculo.

Q: How long did it take you to actually create the site?
A: From when we first started collected books, author names, etc, until the site was actually online was about five months. We released the site around April 1, but it wasn't complete as far as I would have liked. We didn't have information on every single author, but the list at the time was well over one hundred, it would have been impossible to collect as much information as I wanted. Then, in late April the Daily Prophet was shut down due to some rather fishy circumstances, and half the files were lost. I could update the page to explain what happened, so eventually, an idea struck me for a redesign, and here it is. This has taken about two weeks to recreate, but I think it's a lot better than the last page.

Q: What is that picture in the upper left-hand corner, and where did you get it?
A: That picture is a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, entitled "Leda", and I got it from a site online, I can't remember where. It was some museum's webpage. I decided to go with one of da Vinci's works because, as opposed to more modern art, copyrights don't apply anymore. :) I could use it without getting in trouble. I simply edited the picture so it would be just the girl, then I slowly turned it blue to match the color-scheme.

Q: What font did you use for the logo?
A: It's called "Codex." I don't know where to get it, I got it from a sibling.

Q: Are you making lots of money off this site?
A: Haha, no!
