Calculo Review

Without a doubt, Harper Lee's novel about life in the American south is an absolute classic. It is a must have for any library, American or otherwise. Lee rather remarkably tells a tale of true southern life, prejudices and all. This is a rare quality to find in a piece of American literature written in the twentieth century. Lee's tale of a family in Maycomb, Alabama during the great depression in the 1930's so eloquently sets the mood as you are told of two young children as they experience, first hand, the depths a human being can sink to, while at the same time, they witness the true nobility that can come from those compassionate few who live amongst us.

Important Note; this book involves mature themes involving a crime against a woman. It is not graphic in any manner, but the plot is still there. This is something to take into account when considering whether you consider reading this book for yourself, or instructing others to read it. I was not offended by this topic at all. I believe it was handled with an incredible amount of grace and tact, but you should be the one to decide.
