Stats:
Born August 12, 1931, in Highland Park, Illinois.
Bio:
I had written this perfectly charming little bio of William Goldman,
based on the short snippet of a bio on the back cover of The Princess Bride,
and the information found in that book's introduction, but you
know what I found out? That introduction was fake! As far as I
am are aware, S. Morgenstern never existed. There was no argument with Stephen
King over who would abridge the sequel. There were no legal troubles. It
was all made up. And he didn't even have the decency to make that clear! |

:) I've searched for information about this guy on the internet
for hours, and I can't find anything, so here's the short snippet
from the cover of The Princess Bride:
William Goldman has been writing books and movies for more than forty years.
He has won two Academy Awards (for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and
"All the President's Men"), and three Lifetime Achievement awards in
screenwriting. His novel Marathon Man has made him very famous in
dentist's offices around the world.

Calculo Review
From the moment I read the introduction by William Goldman, I was completely
hooked. I had the good fortune of receiving a gift certificate to my
local bookstore from my brother and his wife, which relieved the guilt I
usually get when I'm about to spend a lot of money for a book.
Had I only know how wonderful this book really is, I would have
gotten it ages ago!
William Goldman, an accomplished screenwriter and novelist, tells us about
how he came to 'abridge' S. Morgenstern's Princess Bride in the introduction
to the 25th anniversary edition. (S. Morgenstern is actually Goldman's
alter-ego - he wrote every word of the book.) It's a delightful tale
that's both enveloping and highly entertaining. You absolutely must read
it! It would be considered a traitorous act to skip it!
The Princess Bride itself is wondeful! It's a book of considerable size,
and yet I was so addicted to it, I read it in three days. I didn't sleep,
my mother forced me to eat, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Even
if you've seen the movie, you must read the book. I sat in my bed, flashlight
in hand long into the wee hours of the morning, exclaiming 'So that's
why Inigo said that to Count Rugen!' The book has histories of the
characters that are so very entertaining they could have been made into
movies themselves!
I could go on for hours about how great, fantastic, beautiful,
heart-warming, etc etc this book is, but I'd never be able to convey just
how much I love it. I know that when I have children, and
when they turn ten years old, I will follow in William Goldman's tradition;
you can bet I'll be sitting at my child's bedside, reading the
heroic tales of Westley, Inigo, Fezzik, the Dread Pirate Roberts, and the
beautiful Princess Buttercup, far past my kid's bedtime. That's how much
I love it.
In conclusion, 'My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to
die.'
